Does Being on a State Occupation List Guarantee 190 or 491 Eligibility?
Occupation access is only one layer of state nomination. The visa, stream, location, employment, study, English, points and evidence settings must also be checked.
What does an occupation list establish?
An occupation list helps establish whether an occupation can enter a particular visa or nomination pathway. Home Affairs also notes that different skilled occupation lists apply to different visas, while jurisdictions publish their own nomination requirements.
What else must be checked?
- Whether the occupation is open for subclass 190, 491 or both.
- Whether the applicant fits an onshore, offshore, graduate or other stream.
- Any residence, employment, study or income settings.
- English, EOI points, experience and skills-assessment standards.
- Whether an ROI, Matrix or state invitation is required and the program is open.
Why can the same occupation have different results across states?
Jurisdictions set different occupations, streams and priorities around local workforce needs, annual allocations and program objectives. A profile may have an entry point in one jurisdiction but not meet a current stream in another.
