Western Australia nomination guide

WA selects subclass 190 and 491 candidates through its General and Graduate streams. Occupation list, location, sector, points and EOI date all affect invitation priority.

Identify the applicant category first

Pathway eligibility is more than an occupation title.

GeneralSchedule 1

Health and medical occupations

Occupation must be on WASMOL Schedule 1 and available for the selected visa.

  • At least one year of relevant Australian or overseas experience in the last 10 years
  • 190 generally requires a WA full-time employment contract for at least six months
GeneralSchedule 2

Other WASMOL occupations

For Schedule 2 occupations, with 190 generally tied to a WA employment contract.

  • Occupation must be available for 190 or 491
  • Specified building and construction occupations may receive a contract exemption
GraduateHigher education

WA higher-education graduates

Centred on the Graduate Occupation List and WA study.

  • At least two years of full-time study in WA
  • Qualification level, points and EOI date affect ranking
GraduateVET

WA VET graduates

Generally requires a WA Certificate III or higher and the two-year study requirement.

  • Occupation must be on the GOL and available for the selected visa
  • VET candidates are further ranked by qualification level

What affects selection

  • WA residents first, followed by offshore and interstate candidates
  • Priority sectors include construction, health and social assistance, hospitality and tourism, and education and training
  • Within a group, points are ranked first, then the earliest EOI date
  • The Graduate stream also ranks higher-education or VET qualification level
Minimum eligibility is not an invitation

From EOI to visa

WA nomination process

Confirm federal visa eligibility and the applicable WA occupation list

Create or update an accurate SkillSelect EOI for 190/491

Wait for a WA invitation round; no separate ROI is required

04

Submit nomination and evidence within 28 calendar days of invitation

After nomination, lodge the visa within the Home Affairs deadline
