Tasmania first checks pathway eligibility, then ranks a Registration of Interest through priority attributes. A pass colour is an invitation priority—not a visa approval.
Checked 10 August 2026
The 2026–27 program opens to new ROIs on 17 August.
Tasmania has received 2,050 places for 2026–27: 1,250 for subclass 190 and 800 for subclass 491.
New ROIs open on 17 August 2026 and weekly invitations begin from 20 August. The 2026–27 settings retain the $57,000 annual / $28.85 hourly priority-income threshold and introduce revised priority-attribute scores across several pathways.
A TSE Gold attribute now requires at least 30 hours a week in one eligible Tasmanian job.
TSE directly related employment is newly weighted by duration: 40 points for 15–18 months, 30 for 12–15 months and 25 for 9–12 months.
TSG related-study employment has revised tiered scores, and applicants who have lived only in Tasmania may claim a new 15-point attribute under TSG or TER.
Employment evidence is assessed more closely for genuine operations, market salary, duties, hours and ongoing need. New restrictions for massage therapists and motor mechanics commence on 1 December 2026.

Applicants living in Tasmania
Four pathways require four different evidence strategies.
190 / 491Tasmanian Skilled Employment (TSE)
For applicants living and working in Tasmania.
Employment duration and pay thresholds differ between 190 and 491
Work is generally at least 20 hours a week
Employer, contract, market salary and genuine ongoing need are examined
A job unrelated to the skills assessment may require matching OSCA qualifications or experience
A formal, closely related Tasmanian job offer is required in specified health, allied health, medical, nursing or school-teaching occupation groups. Eligible ROIs receive Gold Pass.
The Overseas Skilled Occupation Profiles pathway cannot be entered by lodging an ordinary ROI. Migration Tasmania has stated that no general invitations are planned for this pathway in 2026–27; an overseas applicant must first be contacted by the state.
Eligibility opens the ROI. Priority attributes determine the queue.
How Tasmania ranks an ROI
The ROI is free and remains valid for six months.
Only the most competitive candidates are invited; meeting minimum pathway requirements is not enough by itself.
Gold, Green and Orange-Plus attributes may require employment of at least $57,000 a year or $28.85 an hour, excluding loadings and extras.
Different pathways and visa subclasses publish different attributes and point values.
Every claimed attribute must be true and supported when the nomination application is lodged.
Pass colour is not an approval
A Gold Pass enables immediate nomination application. Green is expected to receive an invitation within six months subject to remaining places. Orange is competitive and may be invited; Orange-Plus ranks ahead of other Orange candidates. Red means the minimum requirements are not met.
Gold Pass01
Apply immediately
Reserved for the highest published priority attributes or designated overseas pathways.
Green Pass02
High-priority queue
Invitation expected within six months only while program places remain.
Orange / Orange-Plus03
Competitive pool
May be invited according to attribute points, demand and allocation. Orange-Plus is considered first among Orange passes.
Red Pass04
Not eligible to apply
The ROI does not meet the minimum nomination requirements for the selected pathway.
Priority attributes are pathway-specific. Do not transfer an attribute or score from one pathway or visa subclass to another.

From federal EOI to visa invitation
Tasmania nomination process
01
Confirm visa and pathway eligibility
Check federal age, occupation, skills assessment, English and points requirements, then the detailed Tasmanian pathway rules.
02
Create a SkillSelect EOI
The EOI must be current and list Tasmania as a state of interest. Include both 190 and 491 if you want the permitted alternative considered.
03
Submit a free ROI
Use the Migration Tasmania Gateway. The system checks basic eligibility and assigns a Gold, Green, Orange or Red pass.
04
Wait for—or activate—an invitation
Gold can apply immediately. Green and competitive Orange ROIs may be invited according to ranking and available places.
05
Apply within 28 days
Upload evidence supporting every ROI claim and pay the non-refundable nomination application fee.
06
Nomination and visa application
If nominated, SkillSelect issues the Home Affairs visa invitation, normally valid for 60 days. Nomination and visa assessment remain separate.
